I was in search of crab spiders and happened upon this ambush bug snacking on a fly. Like many other assassin bugs they inject a digestive enzyme into their prey to liquify their insides that they then drink up like a milkshake.

I just took a picture (and subsequently Google lens-ed) one of these for the first time this weekend! I wonder if it’s peak season for them or something?

Not a bad picture. Yeah I do believe their mating season is late summer / early fall.
