I’m seeing a lot of articles putting the rate at 5%. Google is just so much worse than it used to be…

That 5% figure is 3 years old, and one report from 2018 had the figure at 8.7% so it appears to be dropping. Based on the political climate in the US that number is unlikely to my rise anytime soon.

That 5% figure comes from The Guardian, a British newspaper, which I would actually trust more than a domestic source at this point. Based on what I’ve read about what the Trump administration has done to the EPA, I would imagine any new pollution reports won’t be a possibility for a while.

Yes, based on what I’ve read. Less than 5% of the plastic that consumers place in recycling bins actually gets recycled. The rest is shipped to other countries, who then dump it in the ocean. When you throw plastic in the garbage it ends up in a domestic landfill. Landfills certainly aren’t ideal, but at least we know where it is, and it’s better than the ocean.

Plastic recycling is one of the primary sources of microplastics. They use jets of air to remove labels, which creates an enormous cloud of microplastic. People who live near plastic “recycling” plants have more plastic in their bodies than people who don’t.

We’re not even criticizing it, just saying it’s not for us. I was born in 85 and used computers in the computer lab at school in the 90s that were too old to even have mice, they were keyboard only. We played educational games on them like Oregon Trail and lots of math games. These graphics remind me of those. I’m just not interested in going back that far.

The graphics are too primitive for me, which is a shame. I don’t consider myself a graphics snob, but this looks like something that came out 35 years ago.

Maybe I’m the problem for clicking on a post about a game I haven’t played yet, but also maybe if you include a major spoiler as your second sentence, your first sentence should mention the incoming spoiler.

Reusing cooking oil causes cancer. I thought this was wildly known, but I’m consistently surprised at how many people online say things like this.

This is why “drip jars” stopped being used in the 20th century. There used to be one in every house until it was understood it causes stomach cancer.

I was on trails the entire hike. I have yet to do any of the style of rock climbing that people do with ropes, harnesses, and helmets, but I might look into that when I’m ready for it. I do some lighter/easier rock climbing without equipment occasionally, like ridgelines, which do have some danger of falling.

The Cascades aren’t too different from a range like the Rockies, except there are more volcanoes and you start at a lower elevation. I do snowshoeing in the winter when the avalanche risk isn’t too great. Rainforest trails are accessible year round but are crowded in the summer, so I do those in other seasons. The PNW is just stupid gorgeous.

Foot. Biking would be exceptionally dangerous on the steep trails I was on. Although there are no rangers in wilderness areas so there’s no one to stop people from trying.

I got back from a 40 mile hike on Thursday. The hike was in the Cascade mountains and had a total of 10,177 feet elevation gain.

I am on day 3 of my (somehow sustained) natural high, and wondering how long endorphins last. Being sore is so much fun when you’ve earned it.

I wear Bedrock sandals as often as I can. I only switch to shoes when the temp won’t be going above 50 for the day. Previously I have always worn Xero shoes, but I was thinking about replacing them with a Lem shoes/boots. I like Xero, but they’re a little too minimal for a lot of conditions. I’m hoping Lem have a slightly thicker sole.
