What hardware do you have? Mine is somewhat on the older side (ryzen 3600 and rx 6600), but new enough to run games and other software decently.
What apps does Mint have installed by default? Because I’m trying to minimize the things I need to tinker with up front to have a good experience. I am somewhat technically savvy, but this is my first linux install, so I’d like it to go smoothly and hit the ground running. What is the benefit of mint over this OS?

1·3 days agoInteresting stuff, thanks for sharing! Definitely concerning, especially the openAI stuff. I guess I will take a look at grapheneOS again, but I just hate the idea that I need to buy a google product in order to use it.
Highlights the idiocy of dividing people up by generation, they just totally skipped Gen X, because there was no neat little stereotype they could come up with.
Yea, moss. Dill needs to be sown very shallow, 1/8-1/4". Just a sprinkle of soil on top.
There is no picture attached to this post, not sure if there was supposed to be.

1·4 days agoThat’s interesting. Where can I learn more about the lack of safety features and the connection to OpenAI? Seems pretty surprising, especially considering they tout safety and data privacy as their primary selling point.

2·4 days agoThat’s obviously always a concern, but I don’t really see anything they are doing that would lead to either of those. If anything, they are making it safe by adding things like encryption, audience controls, and private groups. Their approach seems to be very community focused and driven.

6·5 days agoIt seems like it’s a platform. The roadmap includes things like groups, events, encryption, protocol bridges, and whole bunch of other stuff. Per their indie gogo campaign: “Bonfire is open, community-first social infrastructure. A digital commons where people gather, co-create, and care together.” They also have an app available currently, which is what this article is about.

2·5 days agoTbf, I would watch adult swim for hours when I was a kid. I’d watch all the other nonsensical brain rot shows that went on around the same time, space ghost, the brak show, etc. Totally incoherent, but absolutely hilarious.
I’m considering switching over from windows, but since I have only been a windows user for my entire adult life, I don’t have a frame of reference for what a different desktop set up would even look like. I’m curious of the possibilities.
Been giving it serious consideration. I have not been a fan of windows for a few years now, but the next iteration looks like absolute hell. Seems like the time is right with how accessible linux is these days.

I am not familiar with flat packs vs snaps, I will have to look into that. I’m not opposed to learning different file systems if need be, it’s all new to me anyway, but if one is easier than the other I would probably go with that.
