  • Unfortunately, not everyone even aware of Musk stuff.

I’m Indonesian, and a lot of Indonesian people are using Twitter without even knowing what’s going on with Twitter except for name change.

I usually recommend my friend to join local Misskey or Mastodon instance instead. But its harder when fediverse trending stuff is filled mainly with Western stuff. All existing instance are tends to whether ACG stuff or tech stuff with occasional local/global politics discussion.

It’s a chicken and egg situation.

Not to forget, all Mastodon Indonesia instance are dead around a year after huge Indonesian migration from Twitter. It gives impression that fediverse is not a viable alternative.

I still have three different Twitter account, and all of them have entirely different feed mainly either Japanese ACG stuff, Indonesian local discussion, or to interact with private friends account. Almost all my friends still using Twitter for talking about Indonesian musics, politics, or other pop cultures that unrelated/disconneted from Western fandom.

Any social media is filled with various cultural/societal bubbles. Even fediverse itself is filled with cultural bubbles, mainly Western-sphere, JP-sphere, geek-sphere, or CN-sphere.

  • Having Krita as basic image editing is doable. However, if you actually use them professionally, you’ll realize that Krita is definitely not alternative to those.

Krita is a first-class painting software, and even its current development is more closer to be Clip Studio Paint alternative, like having comic layer, webtoon layout, etc. The dev regularly observate Clip Studio Paint development.

Affinity Photo is actually easier to use than any alternative, including Photoshop and even GIMP. Its base system also much more faster than Photoshop, GIMP, and even Krita.

  • It seems your context is specific. If a country is actively hostile against other countries, occupying territories, forbidding people to visit the dangerous area is a common sense.

Making individual user to not be able to contribute to GitHub literally does not do anything towards the regime. In fact, it’s just making the regime to make alternative platform that controlled by the government to censor the voice. The people basically living on their own bubble and potentially disconnected to the world.

  • Oh, outside Western sphere (including my coountry), there are a lot of tech entusiast that also a Microsoft "fans, "the same way Apple fans are exist.

Also, in my experience, despite I hate Microsoft, I found so many niche open source project that almost never in any English FOSS discussion. Especially, project that belongs to Indonesian, Chinese, or Japanese FOSS community. Example: video player with Japanese learning capabilities, video downloader for specific Chinese video hosting, or anime tracker with Chinese site as its database.

I wish FOSS community will provide alternative to social experience and recommendation like GitHub. With ActivityPub :)

  • Sanctions does not work, the regime still stays while average people suffers and even it harder to even escape the country. North Korea still exist. Belarus still exist. Eritrea still exist.

American sanctions also only targeted towards anti-America countries. If the regime is pro-America, it’s not gonna be sanctioned.

If you actually support democracy, let’s support the people by giving them platform in the international community. Making them be able to showcase their voice without hijacked by external political force.

  • Majority of area in the world does not recognize it as negative thing.

Even for English, English itself is diverse language. Singaporean English, Indian English, Asian English, definitely not negative in all of them.

Forcing one standard of language as a universal is a bad precedent for language diversity.
