      Still the word for it in swedish, Borgare.

      It’s funny, we also just straight up call economic right wingers here Borgare, pains me to no end that we apparently have 0 negative associations for that word.
      I could never imagine an english speaker proudly calling themselves bougie, it’s like calling yourself a dicatator.

        Could that be because one of your parties adopted that word?

        In any case, words have different connotations in different languages. In German, the word Bürger just means member of society. However, if you use the French word bourgeois as an adjective it has a negative connotation. Actually, the adjective bürgerlich often also has a negative connotation, but not always and not as strong as bourgeois.
