For a brief moment, I felt hope.

Harris represented the democratic party. When you speak out against they very thing you’re facilitating, you just show your constituents that your words are worthless. Same deal with dems speaking out against ICE in trump pt I and then voting to fund it under Trump and again under Biden.
claimed a 2 state solution was the only way forward.
A 2 state solution has been dead on arrival for decades.

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyzto politics @lemmy.world•Trump admin warns states: Don’t try to lower broadband prices11·10 days agoShame genocide is so unpopular with anyone who might vote democrat. If only someone tried to tell the dems that doing fuckall to improve the material conditions of your constituents, expanding republican policies we all agreed were bad when Trump did it, and sending the cops to kick the shit out of the politically activated and organized youth would decrease voter turnout.
Taiwan’s official name, that their government calls itself, is “the republic of china”, “china” covers both places just fine.
Alcoholicorn@mander.xyzto politics @lemmy.world•Why did we ever stop calling them weird? Just like we are letting them get away with defending a pedophile. Cant imagine what's in their closets.44·16 days agoSame reason they embraced every policy that killed the Biden campaign; Median Voter Theory.
Democrats imagine a swing voter who agrees with 80% of what the republicans say, and then adjust their own policy and messaging to appeal to that imaginary voter.
Not supporting the French was an intentional design decision.
Religion doesn’t exist outside society; that dogma is determined by what is useful to those in society with the power to promote it. This is why under the multi-cultural Ottoman Empire they came up with all sorts of justifications to expand the definition of “people of the book” to include basically every significant religious minority except Hindus, and that was only a matter of time, and why fundamentalists who want to return to the 1300s were promoted funded by the British/US/Saudis.
Same applies to any ideology or philosophy. To pretend otherwise is liberal idealism.

Alcoholicorn@mander.xyzto Science Memes@mander.xyz•we must protect them from exoticsEnglish2·25 days agoOther measure for mosquitoes when you have stagnant water you cant put fish in or remove, such as the water that pools in banana plants and bird baths’ mosquito bits. They’re like small rocks carrying a spore that kills mosquito larva, and it seems harmless, at least it is to frogs.
Its pretty trivial to get a vpn, or just download an esim in alipay. Esims automatically go around the Great Fire Wall.
Alcoholicorn@mander.xyzto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Public transit in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 vs Chengdu, China 🇨🇳 English6·26 days agoThere are countries where that is absolutely true, look at any major construction project in the gulf states, and counties where that is much less true.
At least during my time in China, I saw more workers wearing PPE and taking measures such as using water to stop particulate matter from getting into the air than in Korea and way more than Vietnam and other developing countries. I understand it was very different 20 years ago.
I don’t have data, but I would be quite surprised if China had significantly more injuries per hour worked in construction than Korea.

The Beijing subway opened in 1971, when they had less than half the current population. All I can say is that it felt slow, like 2 hours to get what looked like 3-4 blocks on a map

It makes me very happy to be able to nap on a subway/night bus or safely ride a bicycle or somewhat less safely ride a motorbike. My productivity is the same because I work remotely.

No no no, if you don’t constantly support the policies that got us here, youre an accellerationist who want the republicans to win. Which is definitely a real position people on lemmy have. Don’t ask them, just trust me and block any instance left of tepid liberalism.
