Decentralized app plotting a total takeover of the social internet? Are these tryouts for the mental gymnastics invitational?
I’m certain that’s not what that means. It only means that if Anthropic or Google wants to train an AI model THEY can steal any content they want.
Azul Crescent spotted in the wild? :D
Me definitely! I can’t handle loud spaces, especially social gatherings where there is chatter echoing throughout the room. I get so overloaded I have to leave and find quiet spaces to calm down.
Good!
I’ve never heard of “Drop”. Culture has changed a lot in the last 20 years and how we learn about new movies is largely being fed the list of movies we are going to hear about by an algorithm. Granted, I’m specifically avoiding that kind of thing, but for most people they are going to hear about it on Tiktok or Youtube or Shiznab or Fwuhungo or wherever the kids these days hang out. - Shakes fist at clouds - And simply “cranking out original movies” isn’t good enough anyway. Are they good movies? Because people will talk about them if they are good. And sometimes even being good isn’t enough if the current social climate just isn’t into what the movie is doing. Movies at their very best are art, and a lot of the best ones flopped at the box office, only to be rediscovered years later. idk where I’m going with this… just rambling and also I still have no interest in slop or infinite sequels.
Oh, absolutely expected. Still hanging on to my butt and hoping people stop him before he decides to ‘liberate’ my country.
Holy, that is chilling. Even for him.
In this climate of post-law America… yeah. Whatever will happen will happen I guess.
In other words, carbon capture is not practical or scalable.
I don’t want Apple to win, but I DO want Musk to lose.
I don’t think I’m quite the target of this comment because I don’t pretend it doesn’t exist or that it isn’t something that people use or care about. But I do avoid using AI for anything that matters… like at all. I also refuse to use chatgpt or any of the commercial offerings. I do play around with locally hosted stuff because the tech is interesting, but there is no way I would ever put my faith in it. Also, my feelings toward the biggest players in the industry are at best “disgust”. So I don’t want to use their products.
So my question then how exactly can I be in the room to help shape decisions? The only two levers I have to pull is whether or not to send those companies money, and whether to even use the free services or not.
What exactly am I supposed to do? The companies will just make whatever models and tune them however they feel will achieve whatever goals they have regardless. And presently, their goals do not align with mine.
I won’t be surprised when we are fucked. I promise you that. I can see that coming. But I feel utterly powerless to stop the tech fascists.
What if instead of making quantum computers (hard) we just use AI to tell us what the quantum computation result would be?! (easy)
slash s, please don’t at me. It’s Microsoft. You KNOW some exec has already suggested it.
The war thunder forums are going to go HARD for the next 4 years.
“Let’s set aside the obvious conflict of interest and ethics questions at play here —” You can’t, and you shouldn’t.
"We can even skip over the security implications pointed out by a cybersecurity expert in the Times piece. " You can’t, and you shouldn’t.
“As a practical matter alone, there’s no obvious reason to add another ISP in order to improve Wi-Fi coverage” It doesn’t take an entire paragraph to figure out what’s going on here let alone an entire article.
As someone from north of the USA border… PLEASE stop this man from stealing your country, Americans.
https://www.youtube.com/@ElliotCoen for reviews of discs and boutique media, sometimes I want to watch stuff I see Corridor Crew talk about, or cinemastix. Edit: I’m very interested if anyone knows of any women out there doing film reviews or discussions. It’s mostly dudes out there.
There’s a few movie collectors I follow on youtube and I consider their recommendations and reviews of bluray discs. I’ve also picked up at least one movie from someone talking about it during one of those wired ‘tech’ support videos. Following a hashtag like cinemastodon or something can also get you some organic recommendations.
I don’t even know if this is to protect their profits. Not Hollywood, but in gaming Baldur’s Gate 3 is the most aggressively gay and inclusive game I have ever played (compliment) and it was a near universal hit. “Go woke, go broke” simply doesn’t work out. This feels far more like people with specific interests are directing what content is being produced than them reacting to market demands.
