To be fair, you can’t always take things as “obvious” in science without so much as an attempt to investigate, because every so often an idea that seems obvious or common sense turns out to be wrong, or has some unexpected detail to it.

Shouldn’t the raptors cancel though?
I’d rather not create thought crimes, or give the government a vague label to slap on any group of people they want to criminalize.
eh, Id say theres some pretty ugly mammals out there, at least in my opinion. most primates for instance, mole rats, some but certainly not all bats…
yet also kind of cute
I mean, a few million nationwide is high numbers to get for a protest, but not for a presidential election, with the size of the US anyway. I’d bet most of them probably voted. It’s the more politically engaged segment of a population that one would expect to show up to a protest, after all.
I mean, has the system ever not eventually stabilized in another state? The fact that we have had extinctions, quite a lot of them even involving most species that have ever existed, and yet complex life and ecosystems still exist, would suggest that life will find a way to adapt around such a loss given time.
How many species of birds and bats eat just mosquitoes though, or a high enough percentage that they would go extinct rather than shift to rely more on their other prey species, even if at a smaller population? And are those particular species of birds and bats worth the consequences of having mosquitoes?
Even there though, what is the actual point of a phone app controlled smart toilet, even if you open sourced the whole thing? Unlocking one’s phone and tapping the app icon, and then presumably a button on the app, is going to take more time than one press of a lever that one is right next to anyway, and the latter doesn’t present as many points of failure.
It does have a useful definition I think in “a non-state actor using violence to serve some political goal”, as that at least lets one categorize a murderer who just hated that specific guy as having something different going on with them compared to a murderer who wants their act to shock a nation into taking some action. It’s commonly misused as “someone using violence that we don’t like”, but there is still some utility in understanding a person’s motive for doing something.
To be fair, Hong Kong wasn’t really large numbers for the government that would actually have had to have been affected to change the policy, that is, mainland China. Had every other Chinese city had protests similar in relative scale, things might have gone differently.
Every second I’ve lived so far, I haven’t died, so if we simply take that pattern and extrapolate it for each future second…
Those guys are what got me to finally start using adblocker, when they were running their videos as every other youtube ad (unless they still do that)
Whatever his charisma might be, if he runs in 2028, that’s good at least in that it would require his father not have managed to remove elections and term limits by then for it to occur
Every so often that kind of thing goes badly for them. Just ask the French
By trying to find the smartest guy around to get expert advice from no less.
You know things are bad when your policies are too cruel for even the cops to go along with.
The argument is that there exist some use cases where we do not have a viable low carbon energy source yet (things like heavy farming equipment or aircraft), and one can effectively counteract the emissions of these things until we do develop one. Or alternatively, by the time that we eliminate all the high carbon energy, the heating effect already present may be well beyond what we desire the climate to be like, and returning it to a prior state would require not just not emitting carbon, but removing some of what is already there.
Before bed I’ve heard, but right after waking? I thought light was good then for getting you more alert?
I think the aim is to get people to slow down even when there isn’t a cop, since one could always be around. It doesn’t really work that well and is a poor substitute for good road design, but still.
