  • I’ve been on this train for a while that governmental organizations like the Bureau of Consumer Protections needs to have a site where all manuals, blue-prints, and technical specs need to be required to sell consumer products. I want to be able to 3d print or easily provide a machining service with the specs for a part ESPECIALLY when the original manufactures discontinue any type of support.

Same goes for all software or digital services that someone has purchased but the company folds or discontinues. I should be able to run my own servers or basic services off my own setup when that company no longer provides what I paid for.

  • My concern with this take is “what are we considering this effect to be?” If we are taking the average republican who wholly considers themselves to be “Conservative”, their party was overtaken by extremists who are the antithesis to what the goal of that meaning is.

I don’t want a “Blue Maga” which takes the party away from progressive policies in an attempt to drum up fanatical support “against the tyrannical reds” while in reality they continue destroying the democracy we have. An example is a new DNC who wishes to prosecute and deport those who are on the right (there are examples on this site of individuals who are “progressives” but think the “right” should all be rounded up).

When people say they want a “tea party” I think it’s way to vague. Talking about the “effectiveness” of how the GOP has been changed is just completely scary, since in reality it just became a mask off-authoritarian free for all. I don’t need a Corporatized DNC to decide they no longer need the decorum of piece-meal policy that helps citizens since they know everyone has no other choice (like what happened with the GOP).

Again, I really hope a “Left Tea Party” would cause the DNC to capitulate to progressive ideology, but that’s not what happened on the conservative side (as evident from the big beautiful bullshit-bill).

edit: taking=talking, fixed a confusing sentence

  • Did you not read the article?

This is the second time Republicans have tried to codify the bill, which passed in the House last year but failed in the Senate.

it’s long been an obsession of the GOP, which frames the practice as an existential threat to democracy.

Did you not look into the site that published the article?

The New Republic was founded in 1914 to bring liberalism into the modern era… face challenges that belong entirely to this age, from the climate crisis to Republicans hell-bent on subverting democratic governance.

This site, This article, and These comments are not made as a critique on the republican party and were never intended to be.

Do you want a real example of “THiS Is ThE nEW AmErIcA!!”?

  • Is the general IQ on Lemmy dropping that rapidly? I’ve seen your name before but can’t remember the context so I’m going to assume this is in good faith.

Leadership positions…wait for it… lead and address the members of their party and their actions. You know, like the republicans currently have on lock and shit on anyone that steps out of bounds. These individuals should most definitely be called the fuck out

    Rep. Golden’s Tweet

“I voted for the SAVE Act for the simple reason that American elections are for Americans. Requiring proof of citizenship to register to vote is common sense,”

Some claim that requiring proof of citizenship is too onerous a burden, or that it will “disenfranchise” those whose names have changed for reasons like marriage. The truth is the SAVE Act ensures name changes will not prevent anyone from registering to vote.

But most importantly, it requires state leaders to establish protocols to allow citizens to register even if there are discrepancies in documents, such as name changes.

State’s Rights… The “real” truth is… Common Sense, if that isn’t the fucking republican playbook I don’t know what is. Best part is the end,

Maine’s voting culture is the best in the nation. I am confident that under the SAVE Act, our state can both ensure that only citizens can cast ballots and that no one faces unnecessary barriers to registering to vote.

fuck you, we got ours. No protections for those outside of his state, he doesn’t fucking care lol. Every single one of these fuckers needs primaried and taken out of office. The actual fucking DNC shutting down funding and kicking these losers from the party would be a miracle we all need but won’t happen.

  • These comments and reactions are so interesting to me. Like, who are you? If you’re a progressive, you don’t want more blocking for a citizen to vote. If you’re a conservative, you don’t want laws being passed that aren’t necessary and add to the government’s control.

There is absolutely no on-going problem with voter fraud. There is absolutely no reason for this to be a problem for any legislative body to be focusing on. But, you and other commenters always have the same response, “Well, country (A,B,C) do it, what’s the big deal?”

Like wtf is the big deal to begin with? It never starts with that, it’s “what problem do you have with this extra legislation that isn’t needed?”

EVEN ONE PERSON NOT BEING ABLE TO VOTE BECAUSE OF THIS IS A PROBLEM TO ME! ONE PERSON BEING DISENFRANCHISED FROM RUNNING DOWN TO THEIR LOCAL ELECTIONS TO VOTE BECAUSE OF A REQUIREMENT THEY CAN’T REACH IS A FUCKING PROBLEM FOR ME!

You do yourself and any potential ally a disservice when you spout negative bullshit like this. And it is bullshit because what you’re saying is nonsensical and fucking being upvoted (come on lemmy, we’re better than this).

What do pro-Palestinian student protesters at US universities want?

They are demanding that their schools, many with massive endowments, financially divest from Israel.

What is the effective message of protesting at a university over Trump? People have been organizing protests, but what part are you demanding the students actually protest? Just… protest Trump in general? at the University? Protesting till he’s taken out of office or some action is performed?

I honestly want to see the rest of the government make a choice of bowing or standing up to the would-be king before we call to send in the children. Let us know where everyone in the system stands because once Uni kids get involved with mass protesting… it’s gonna get dicey real fast.

I really hope the unwarranted attacks that everyone is spewing at each other is statistically on the decline, it really needs to be shot down the instant it’s seen so we don’t have actual trolls and bots getting footholds.

  • Eh, I would argue Obama was a better candidate but I don’t want that to be the focus. I want better policy and follow-through with a group that will actually speak and engage with constituent dialog. I think even if someone like Sanders would’ve been elected that the Dems would drag their feet as a party with trying to pass anything effectove.

After the whole Debbie Waserman-Shultz (sp, I know) thing, I’ve been very interested in the individuals who run the day-to-day operations of the party and if they’re legitimately promoting progressive candidates and policy with their procedures. If we don’t hold the Dem party responsible for the people running it, not just elected individuals, it’s going to remain a power hungry organization only interested in their continued thriving (and whatever fucked up metric they’re using to determine that).

  • I thought the entire SNL50 shit was kinda gross when watching a few segments of it. Every skit (especially the adam sandler song), had references to “Lauren’s” horrible work ethic and how much of a psychological shit storm working on that show is.

    • Multiple references to Norm Mcdonald being fired for speaking out about OJ
    • the loss of members (some from drug use because of the industry and the show they’re now continuing to promote).
    • turmoil and treatment of the staff and writers
    • obvious racial bias, especially for the weekend update teams in the past

Like it just kept going on and on with little jokes telling how much of a crap place it is, then everyone smiles and says, “Thank you Lauren!!” I honestly doubt if George Carlin was alive, that they would’ve asked him to come back and host (he was the first host).

If this would’ve been the last show, like they all decided to hang up the towel. Then sure, treat it like graduating from a crappy ass highschool you’re just so thrilled to be out of, you can enjoy the last day. But all the appearances and references just reminded me of how shitty SNL has really been over the decades. Sure some great writers and performers, but those have been squeezed and mutilated out of creative individuals for decades for our entertainment.

I really have nothing to say about the “outrage from conservatives” lol, that just feels like clickbait for every side.

  • I honestly read it both ways. I was confused and looked at your further comments for clarity but people before me didn’t have that luxury. What is a Los Angelenos? To a progressive it means anyone residing in the city limits (or once did), to a right-wing definition it would be the registered approved-citizens (blah blah).

This article also centers around the premise of the protests, so by saying “they don’t need this right now”, it seems you’re demeaning the protests and not the ICE actions which have been on-going. It’s apparent after reading more, but your first comment wasn’t a clear, concise, and easily communicated premise or else you wouldn’t see all of the confusion obviously
