Luffy@lemmy.mlto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How can I contribute processing power to the community?English3·6 days agoNo, you cant just „share processing power“
Also you could host something like a Lemmy instance, but then you had to get it federated, and mod it, and what not
If you want to do something good, host a snowflake proxy or something
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Linux@lemmy.ml•Tool to install a linux distro in dual boot directly from Windows? Without live USB6·6 days agoIf you have more than 1 Drive, you can just use a bash script and 7zip to unzip Linux to the drive, that does it
Otherwise you would have to resize a mounted partition, which is just more of a risk than smacking that user with a frying pan until he decides to learn how to install an OS
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Open Source@lemmy.ml•I created a script for installing Linux apps from their official sources11·6 days agoObtainium works in Android, because all the apks have their own Libraries already included, and bc android itself is Immutable
Take that into a mutable system like Linux, and you get break my Gentoo if you didnt even have the great anti dep hell functionality of portage
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-hosting is having a moment. Ethan Sholly knows why.English5·8 days agoSelf hosting just means maintaining your own Instance of a web service instead of paying for someone else‘s
As long as you dont pay hetzner for an explicit fully maintained Nextcloud server, it dosent matter if the OS you‘re running it on is a VM or a bare bones server
OSS or not, if its Windows I will take a shit on it
I find cinnamon kind of useless
It just has this beige win 7 look, that is somehow both new and old at the same time. You dont have the Macros and Costumisation of Plasma, but you also dont have the rigidness and tablet-style interface of Gnome. You dont have the ressource friendlyness of xfce. The only thing it has is that it can both render qt and gtk in its own style, but xfce already does that with its very win xp like interface, which both qt and gtk have themes for
For a 10% coupon, ssh into localhost and enter code sudo rm -rf /*
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Valve announce SteamOS Compatibility ratings, an extension of Steam Deck Verified for more devices6·16 days agoI would also like to recommend Zorin for new Linux users
Yeah, great idea, just recommend them the 2. worst OS ever
Zorins advertising, that it can run just like Windows, just sets the User up for failure. Also its Apps are a mix of bleeding edge and Debian 11. it dosent even give you security fixes right away because you have to buy their pro version
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Linux@programming.dev•Installing Linux Doesn't Need to Change. The Experience Does.11·17 days agoNo it does not.
TL;DR: People who cant use linux never learned the basics of computers. They just learned where to click to do x and where to do y in windows, and they just instantly lock up once anything is different
Luffy@lemmy.mlto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Plebbit Will Never Deliver, Apologies for the Hype, Lemmy is Where I’m StayingEnglish27·18 days agoNot that the blockchain itself is a Bad idea, but after like a year or 2 of becoming popular it will be impossible for anyone to have a locally stored coin because they will be just multiple petabytes big
If you are not the Parent, the kid has going to have a hard time with Linux if you arent availible 24/7 for them to ask. Linux takes some getting used to, and if not even the Parents know anything about it, they are not going to be able to lock down Linux enough
Ok, let me rephrase this:
Your kid is too young to understand the concept of a mouse, but they arent young enough to not use Tiktok, a Social media known for killing even young adults attention time. And for some reason they are thought how to use a PC? To a 5-7 year old?
That aside, I recommend using literally Any OS and just making a guest user excluded from the sudoers file. To install new Apps, just use flatpak at user level, and for roblox theres Sober
If you like hyprland, use it. Just dont prompte it. Dont talk about it. Dont even mention it

I did not at all think this was AI generated, it only reminded me of an AI Slop Game I saw a few hours earlier
Not because it looks too similar, but both play in a dystopian world. I did not mean to accuse you of making Slop, I was just commenting that your game kinda has the same Premise, but if you actually gave a thought about it and made an interesting Trailer

Luffy@lemmy.mlto Technology@beehaw.org•Apple's USB-C transition is a confusing mess (and that might be on purpose)16·24 days agoAnd people still buy Apple products?
Of course they do. They blame the EU for forcing Apple to go with Usb c, because Apple had no time to adapt to it
