  • I would guess that starting the habit is harder wirh adhd. Something doesn’t become a habit after just doing it once, you need to do it for a while first. Adhd can make that harder both because you might simply forget and because of executive dysfunction.

I would think that for people without adhd the “forget it once and suddenly it’s gone” also applies (seems consistent with my understanding of human memory), but restarting it might be easier so it doesn’t feel like it.

  • Oh damn. Very good article btw.

According to numbers floating around online, thiat would mean one llama query is around as expensive as 10 google searches. And it’s likely that those costs will increase further.

It still seems like the biggest factor here is the scale of adaptation. Unfortunately the total energy costs of AI might even scale exponentially since the more complex the queries get, the better the responses will likely be. And that will further drive adaptation.

This pace is so clearly unsustainable it’s horrifying, and while it was obvious to some degree, it seems it’s worse than I thought.

  • Sometimes I get clickbaited into watching one because yt doesn’t let me hide them forever (is there an extension for that maybe? Surely it’s doable with css or something), and they’ve been alright. Though the ones I clicked on have only been from one creator and I don’t mind fast talking (not sped up) and those didn’t have the fast cuts.

I also really don’t get the appeal of the format. I’ve been sent shorts from other creators and it just feels worse than the same thing as a proper video. It doesn’t overload me because it’s essentially how my brain operates anyway, but that’s also why I want things that make me take a break from constantly thinking in overdrive by simply being slow.

  • Funnily enough that’s an example of two infinities that mathematically have the same cardinality (which is very often conflated with size since for general mathematical purposes that’s what it is) since you can map a bijection (i.e. every number in the first set has one and only one mapping in the second and vice versa) between the two (and it’s as simple as f(n)=2n).

And intuitively that makes about as much (or rather, little) sense as the infinite hotel.

An example of infinities with different cardinalities would be rational numbers vs natural numbers.

  • One of the major draws of discord is the fact that they host the servers for you, for free. Anyone can make an account, click a button, and have a discord server.

Afaik matrix does allow this (haven’t used it personally) but it’s something where I am a bit worried about hosting costs if it reaches a large scale. (Also unsure about how the matrix protocol works precisely, but if defederation is a thing which I feel like it has to be, I can see it leading to huge pains since discords use case is often about being part of a specific communitu, as opposed to twitter or reddit. Being unable to join a groip or see some messsges because of federation issues would be a major headache).

  • They don’t even have that, they just have seperate bins for cans and bottles and people use them, and the only public places to throw away trash are in convenience stores. Which tbf exist like every 400m.

There are exceptions but generally people just keep the city clean because they want to (and social pressure).

Bottle/can deposit system can do a lot to make bins less full though. Japan just doesn’t seem to need it.

  • Solely going off their burger patties (haven’t tried other stuff) I wouldn’t call beyond realistic, though it is very tasty (imo moreso than actual beef). It definitely doesn’t taste the same though.

I think there’s also a cultural issue, some people at least here in germany still consider it weird if you order the vegan/vegetarian version of anything, especially if you aren’t entirely vegan yourself. If that sort of pressure exists it’s also less likely for anyone to try plant based alternatives, no matter how good.

  • People do this with artists too. Especially the moment you offer anything in the way of free commissions for a specific community and such.

Many forums had gfx threads, where members who enjoy putting together banners and such would offer to make something for those who asked. A good friend of mine ran one in a certain game’s forum for a while and the absolute entitlement in which some of those people acted (in regards to speed and nitpicking about minor things) was disgusting. It was maybe 1 in 25 people but it soured the whole thing for her, understandably so. The moment you give people a little finger wrt their requests, one of those people will take the whole hand. The same likely applies to modding.

And I’m sure being a woman doing gaming stuff isn’t helping because there’s way too much sexism in gaming culture, even though there are also a lot of subcommunities that are super welcoming to everyone.

Yeah, would feel much more accurate to say good at things the hormone roulette in your brain decides you want to do (which does lead to you actually wanting to do them at least), terrible at everything else including things you want to do as a result of actually thinking.
