I endured seven years of “you don’t do what I say, and I can make your life hell.” I can only imagine what she would have been capable of had I needed her for citizenship reasons.
But, seriously, Crystal Justice? That sounds nothing like a real name.

This news broke last week.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•Lawsuit Alleges 'Secretly Altered' Vote Machines Stole Election From Kamala HarrisEnglish6·1 day agoNo one wants to. This is just a suppression lever.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•Lawsuit Alleges 'Secretly Altered' Vote Machines Stole Election From Kamala HarrisEnglish6·1 day agoAfter years in Oregon and Washington, this whole thing of having to go to a polling place was weird. Also, even the secretary of state in Arizona mailed out voters’ guides that we apparently need LWV to put out. Not that I’d trust Paxton with anything but a loaded gun in a locked room, but how we run elections here is pretty anachronistic.

And I ran the editorial board at Seattle’s third-largest daily (bearing in mind the P-I was still printing), so I got to do it anonymously.

Join Tech Workers Coalition 101 and help us change thatEnglish6·2 days agoKnow your audience. Just because you think something is a fit for this community does not make it so. And dismissive shit like this is not a fit for Beehaw.
You spammed, got called out for it, and now you’re saying the problem isn’t you, it’s everyone else. That’s the fascist playbook (or, at the very least, your ex’s explanation for why everyone sucks).
.ml has different rules. You don’t get to bring your litterbox here.

Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•Op-Ed: ICE Tactical Units Are Preparing to Deploy in Seattle — We Must Fight Back - The UrbanistEnglish3·2 days agoA time element for the election would be nice here to understand the context. I’ve not lived in Seattle for 25 years, so I don’t remember the cycles, and I’m too mentally exhausted to deal with a search engine.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Politics@beehaw.org•No Kings Day at Austin, right now 5:28pmEnglish1·2 days agoWait … you’re local? I intended to go today, but my Street Medics chaperone got sick yesterday, which I only learned about when reaching out to finalize plans around 1030.
I’m 45 and have never been to a true protest, let alone covered one (I got pressed into reporting in college from time to time, but those weren’t protests so much as students sitting around for a couple of hours). I was hoping to get eased into it today, but alas. I mean, it’s not as though more of these aren’t coming down the pike, but it sure as fuck gets hotter from here.

Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto World News@beehaw.org•[Live] Explosions Heard Across Israel As Iran Fires Missiles In Response For Israeli StrikesEnglish16·4 days agoYeah, that’s to be expected after launching a war against another country to hold your government together enough to avoid being subject to prosecution.
Tehran wasn’t going to be like “Yeah, let’s just take this in stride.”
What is with this end-times porn? I don’t like to kinkshame, but, like … making sure to escalate things that will affect tens of millions of people because you don’t want to end up in court – and I don’t say this lightly – is straight-up evil.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Technology@beehaw.org•Is Google about to destroy the web? Google says a new AI tool on its search engine will rejuvenate the internet. Others predict an apocalypse for websites.English18·4 days agoIs there truly an audience for “I don’t want any proof, just answer my question”?
As Elon said, let that sink in. Perhaps an unpopular position, but if that’s all users want and it makes them more money, of course that’s what Google will do.
I’m in no way suggesting this is a good direction, but it’s unsurprising.
Suggestion: Keep the SSDs and get external housings. They’re unlikely to generate any significant income, so using them as backups may be the better solution.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgto Beehaw Support@beehaw.org•minor request: beemojis on mobileEnglish3·4 days agoI’m ambivalent about Sync, but before the server upgrade, it was one of the only games in town still supporting the 0.18.4 we were on. Now that we’re up to 0.19.11, I’m certainly considering other clients, and while that may solve your issue, I know no one likes shopping around.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgOPto Chat@beehaw.org•Plea for help: I've got a cash infusion coming Monday from my mom, but I'm basically broke ahead of tomorrow's No Kings Day protest and want the option of getting out of the area via Uber/Lyft.English3·4 days agoI’m going to be embedded with Street Medics, so the risk is lower than for somebody just sauntering down there. This does not change having an exit strategy should things go south. The official protest lasts only until before sunset, and we plan to leave at 20.00.
The key word there is “plan” … best laid plans.
Powderhorn@beehaw.orgOPto Politics@beehaw.org•Why is the media ignoring growing resistance to Trump?English7·4 days agoMy take, and I’ve only been covering politics since the '90s, is they realized they crossed the line for public support, so now there are two options: admit overreach (obviously not an outcome here) or double down.
I skipped XP entirely on account of its cartoonish interface, jumping direct to Vista when programs started dropping Win2K support.
