Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto politics @lemmy.world•Can a socialist ex-marine fill Joe Manchin’s seat in West Virginia?0·2 years agoWest Virginia has pretty equal numbers of registered Democrats and Republicans (36.5% & 36.8% respectively) so this will be a battle over turn out and convincing the remaining voters. We’ll see where his numbers are in six months.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Happy Birthday Terry FarrellEnglish15·2 years agoThey’re in a TNG episode. The symbiote controls the host in that episode too. It isn’t a blending.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Happy Birthday Terry FarrellEnglish51·2 years agoIt’s television. Things can happen. Trills didn’t originally have spots either. They just changed it.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Happy Birthday Terry FarrellEnglish9·2 years agoSo let’s imagine a DS9 sequel series or TV movie is green lit and you’re the producer. Does Jadzia come back? If so how? Or does Terry Farrell come back in some other way? Or is she not in it at all?

Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish3·2 years agoIf it weren’t for tuvok and the doctor I don’t think I could have finished that series. It’s the only trek I’ve never really rewatched too. Not counting the modern shows.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish2·2 years agoI want CBS to, on hands and knees, beg RDM to fix Trek now. Oh I’d squeal like a 60s girl at a Beatles concert.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish4·2 years agoYeah, that’s a really good solution. There would have to be something that gives the audience a clue that we’re dealing with the same character I think so the actors would have to really collaborate on their collective characters. That’s really a great idea.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish4·2 years agoThat’s possible. Rene gave odo a real presence though. I don’t know how well another actor would mimic it. They could always do something like interstellar. That character who was left on the ship by himself for all those years was markedly different from the character before they left for the water planet.

Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish7·2 years agoVery true. All Good Things is in my opinion better than all the TNG movies.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish13·2 years agoVoyager had consistently mediocre writing. I, somewhat cynically, always thought the reason moore did Battlestar was to show everyone what Voyager could have been.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish7·2 years agoNog I think is the easiest recast. It could be explained just that the character aged. Odo would be harder. He could be a CGI character with a voice actor but that doesn’t sound good. It could be a plot point that both characters are killed prior to the beginning of the story and the story involves resolving the mystery of what happened and why.
All and all I think it’s unlikely we’ll see any kind of continuation of DS9, which is unfortunate because it’s my favorite series.
Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•Star Trek: DS9 Was "Never Going To Go Into A Movie" Says Kira ActorEnglish51·2 years agoPersonally I’d be okay recasting the role. I’d totally buy that his experiences with the founders could change him physically.

Salamendacious@lemmy.worldOPto Dungeons and Dragons@lemmy.world•Dungeons & Dragons to Bring Adventure (and Funding) to 200 High-Needs Classrooms2·2 years agoThere’s just too much hero worship in American society in general. We go ga-ga for the rich, the beautiful, athletes, actors, musicians, etc. It can be frustrating. Here’s to hoping it isn’t always like this. Who knows maybe someday large amounts of people will watch hours long lectures on ethical philosophy, historiography, physics, etc instead of baseball, football, and basketball. Most Americans can’t name their senators or their governor but can tell you the name of some obscure athlete from two decades ago.
If I remember right the Koch brothers didn’t support trump in 2016 and he still won. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the general election if Trump gets the nomination.
