I tried Hoarder (KaraKeep) & Linkwarden. Both excellent but I preferred the UI for Linkwarden, particularly on mobile, so I stuck with that - i found Hoarder awkward to edit thumbnails for example though things may have changed in KaraKeep. From Android perspective both have apps but I prefer to use browser plugin. With Linkwarden there’s some hoops to jump through on Android Firefox but it works perfectly once set up. Both excellent choices.

Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•[Solved] Looking for ... inventory management, I guess?English7·2 months agoAnother shout for Homebox. I used to use a spreadsheet but over time found I simply didn’t maintain it but I’ve found I always maintain Homebox.
Homebox allows parent/child relationship between items & exports to spreadsheet.
I dont utilise the QR code facility because my family members would not bother to use QR codes. Instead I’ve numbered all boxes in each location (attic, garage, basement etc), printed contents of each box & put the printout into physical folders left in each location so even the most Luddite in my family can easily locate stuff then, in theory, remember where they took it from & if the stars align & its my luck day, put the item back in the same box that they removed said item from. When that happens I always check my lottery numbers too!
They can’t filter/search a physical printout but at least they can find stuff (I guess I should simply add a QR code to each printout for a best of both worlds solution).
Overall I’ve found Homebox a useful, simple & fun tool

Only 1 user but often sharing folders with others including Memories photo sharing add on. Syncs between several machines & mobile. Also syncs Joplin notes. Pi5 also hosts variety of other (lightweight) stuff with no issues at all (Portainer, Nginx Proxy Manager, Linkwarden etc).
Previously hosted on Pi4B (4GB) with external hard drive. I’ve found the Pi5 + SSD faster & more robust so for me it’s been a worthwhile upgrade

I still feel like I’m living in the future using it. The trick I’ve found was initially setting up a good document naming & management convention & following it religiously for every document. The search function is fantastic at narrowing down results. Used in conjunction with specific coloured tags I can immediately see what I need from search results.
Fired up Immich recently. Amazing. Will be donating as I like their stance.
I also enjoy Linkwarden. Switched from the also excellent Hoarder as I prefer the UI.
Most used? Nextcloud with Joplin.

Instead of just saying copy/paste a Docker Compose file he shows how to build it step by step using Portainer so i found it invaluable for future projects.
It seems a bit overwhelming initially but once you’ve installed it a few times you’ll be able to do it from scratch in less than an hour. Probably less as it sounds like you already know what’s what having used Ansible

(the algorithm lied to me)English1·7 months agoI’ve found Canon printers to be generally good overall but this is BS. If its any consolation I have a Canon printer with WiFi. Win 10 is so shit the scanner literally never scans over WiFi & ive given in using the printer over WiFi for anything & just use it via a cable
For me it’s the first thing i learned how to self host: Nextcloud …which in turn allows me to sync Joplin notes, which I use constantly

Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•An update to how many boring, repetitive communities I need to block to make Lemmy enjoyableEnglish6·1 year agoCame here since the Reddit 3rd party app fiasco. Initially I blocked a load of non English language communities which at the time seemed to fill the All feed. Kept adding to my subscribed communities list then in my app (Voyager after Liftoff stopped being developed) blocked a load of keywords, essentially Trump/US politics related.
Now my Home (subscriptions) feed has some great content. I check out All from time to time to see if I can subscribe to more communities.
Niche communities are still lacking but hopefully that improves over time.
I’ve found Routines to be one of the most important features with Samsung - set up a car mode to auto run when charging AND connected by bluetooth to a specific device …and have it set the brighness dependant on the time of day. Turn location off completely unless certain apps are opened. Protect your battery if charging overnight …but go into power saving mode should charging stop for some reason. I find it invaluable. Even more powerful when used with Routines+ add-on
Looks OP has solutions but it looks like Routines also has options to separate sound on app specific basis
Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Not buying a shaver from Philips again..English31·1 year agoAh fair enough. This never occurred to me as we dont have a power socket in the bathroom. Also I’m a typical man so didn’t bother to read the instruction manual.
Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Not buying a shaver from Philips again..English9·1 year agoMy Philips shaver does not work whilst charging. What’s that all about?
Luckily the battery is good but it gives very little warning when its about to run out. I dont grow facial hair very quickly or very thickly but several times I’ve had to leave the house partially shaved. Doesn’t make any sense. That’s the whole point of electricity, to use stuff whilst plugged in!

Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•What phone mount and tripod do you recommend?English2·1 year agoI use this Square Jellyfish tripod mount which screws onto any standard tripod.
It is spring loaded but unless you buy a phone specific mount I doubt you’ll find one that isn’t. It’s not too stiff so it’s easy to insert your phone.
It opens quite wide - handles my Note 20 Ultra 5G plus Poetic Revolution rugged case with no issues.
Saltarello@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Updated my Samsung phone and it installed unwanted appsEnglish41·2 years agoNo idea what this is but just a thought, can’t you just create a Routine that limits charging to 95% (or 99%) so that a notification is never shown?
As for unremovable apps, just disable them? I used to get irritated by unremovable apps but they hardly take up any memory on a 128gb phone.
I read comments saying google never adds bloat …yet i tend to remove/disable more google shite than anything else!

Supports 4K 60fps. Got it hooked up to a Denon amp for Dolby Atmos. At some point i hope I’ll find time to look into Home Assistant, I’d use another NUC for running that.
Wouldn’t be without it!
