It’s basically the original roguelike, if you liked shattered pixel dungeons then you’ll like nethack. There are also several other open source rogelikes to check out as well… including the original Rogue!

(St. Louis, Sep 21st-22nd)English2·2 years agoI’d really like to go this year, but probably won’t make it sadly. I was lucky enough to go last year, and I would say it’s the best tech conference, despite it being my first.
In any case I’m excited to watch the talks when they get uploaded!
The thing that really bothers me about grilled cheese is that they aren’t actually cooked on a grill (most of the time).
I know it’s been a joke for as long as I can remember, but I really think this year (or last) was the year of the Linux desktop. All the work done on proton has seemed to bring lots of gamers over who were tired of Windows bs.

Our search results may suffer for it.English4·2 years agoI was trying to lookup stuff about mechanical keyboards on ddg earlier today, and several results on the first page were reddit threads. So it can definitely happen with some other hobbies/topics I imagine.
ShadyGrove@beehaw.orgto Chat@beehaw.org•The Reddit blackout was pretty underwhelmingEnglish1·2 years agoSame, I could never really get into mastodon as I never liked Twitter much, so I’m pretty happy I found out about Lemmy. I know everyone on this site has been saying this, but it feels fresh, and the fact that it’s all open source and community owned is great.
My favorite thing about this is that emacs actually has
M-x butterfly
now that randomly flips a bit.
ShadyGrove@beehaw.orgto Gaming@beehaw.org•Looking for old 90s-00s RPGs and other old PC games2·2 years agoI’d add Baldurs Gate 1 & 2 to this as well, may be the best crpgs ever imo! Planescape and Baldurs Gate both use the infinity game engine if I recall correctly.
If you’re looking for something a little more modern but with a very similar feel to those, I really like Pillars of Eternity.
I personally like duck duck go, the results are generally pretty good, and if they aren’t, it’s easy to search on other engines using DDG’s bangs. You just type “!g search term” and you can search on Google, and there’s a bunch more, like !w for Wikipedia, !aur for the arch user repo etc etc

ShadyGrove@beehaw.orgto Chat@beehaw.org•How does (or should) one respond to “Lemmy = tankies”English1·2 years agoYup, this is why I’m here at least.
Well yeah, it’s a Linux variant!
