  • I DID grow up with Nintendo. The first gaming thing that wasn’t a DOS computer with asteroids and commander keen on it was a NES. Then an SNES. Then an N64. A few months after the N64 we got a Sega Genesis, and a PS1.

    All that said?

…fuck Nintendo. Switch 1 games play at a higher resolution and better frame rate ON MY PHONE. I refused to buy a switch, and there’s no chance in hell I’ll get a switch 2. The fact that they say if they “detect” cheating or that your S2 is jailbroken they reserve the right, and built in the ability to, brick your device. Fuck them, get fucked, no fucking chance they’re getting a single cent, pence, fucking whatever out of me. Fuck yourselves well and truly to fuck! 👍🖕👍

    Rant over 🥰

  • If we’re putting the SteamDeck against Nintendo, I’d say the natural comparison is Steam exclusives against Nintendo exclusives.

I disagree. It would be more accurate to say:

If we’re putting the Steam Deck against the Switch 2, the natural comparison is between Switch 1/2 compatible games, without jailbreak, versus any game that works on the Steam Deck hardware be it Linux Native, with wine/Proton and any emulator that runs games minimum original frame rate with minimal issues.

Bear in mind that the Steam Deck is a handheld Linux computer, and anything that will run on the level of hardware it has and plays nicely with Linux will run on the Steam Deck.

Even just with only installing Steam on the Deck, as of mid-May there is 18k Deck Verified games.

  • I definitely would with Garuda. Like I said, they’ve removed basically all of the pain points of arch. I set my 70yr old dad up with Garuda, he’s been using MacOS mostly and windows for work for ages. The only thing I had to show him was how to open a terminal and type “sudo update” every few weeks. Everything else is as intuitive as any other Linux distro.

  • You keep dragging me in with these bad takes which I feel I have to counter. Very annoying.

I don’t think they’re necessarily BadTakes™. Uninformed. Having read through the article, and leaning heavily towards Anarcho-Syndaclism personally, the article does mention real world examples, sure. However there’s not really a lot of info there, more of a bird’s eye overview in 2-3 paragraphs. Maybe the videos give more detail?

The person you were talking with seems pretty typical of people I’ve spoken to about these things. Interested, but, if not provided with a fair amount of examples/detail, get wound up with exactly this type of argument.

  • For the lazy:

EXE GNU/LINUX (Devuan GNU/Linux with Trinity Desktop)

Exe GNU/Linux (originating from Exmouth, in south-west England) is a “Live Linux image” preconfigured with a selection of applications for general desktop use. The image, written to CD or USB, may be used to start almost any computer with an Intel or AMD processor and runs as a complete operating system…

A fixed disk installation can be done from the “live” session. This can replace Microsoft Windows (or other OS) or install as a dual-boot configuration.

The core system is a Devuan GNU/Linux base. Previous versions were based on Debian. Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) is preinstalled. Please note, this is not an “official” Devuan nor TDE project.

Included are various “system rescue” software tools and a small number of additional custom scripts and applications, e.g. the installer. Use and administration of Exe GNU/Linux is generally the same as official Devuan. Most Debian documentation and wiki articles also apply except that Debian’s “systemd” is not used. See “References” further down this page.

No non-free software is included. Some wireless devices and other hardware components may need proprietary firmware. Solutions are very well documented at https://wiki.debian.org/ .

Exe GNU/Linux images are available in 32- and 64-bit versions and are sized 650-700M. They may be obtained from the “Current Downloads” link on the left of this page.
