  • As a party, the Dems suck. Absolutely. And in the long-term, as an opposition party, they are not great.

That being said, are the non-voters and protest non-voters children? The nonsense I’m reading about non-voters not being “inspired” or not being “captured” by Democrats to convince them to vote against fascism sounds like a description of a salesman trying to sell products, not the either-or choice being given to every adult American, which is, as a citizen, their own goddamn responsibility to be party to.

A non-vote is still a vote. You don’t absolve yourself of the outcome by choosing not to participate, because if you can vote, you’re already participating.

There were three real options this past election: MAGA, Dems, and I-don’t-care-they’re-equally-bad. So yes, not voting when fascists win means you supported fascism.

Obviously that does not mean non-voters are solely to blame. Republicans accepted fascists, those that voted R chose fascists, Dems suck as a party, and non-voters sat back and allowed fascists to take power. On the list, non-voters are the least bad, certainly, but they still bear responsibility.

It’d be sweeter if I had a house and could arrange a spot to do it reliably.

My wife and I are buying a house, and one of the main things she’s planning is The Unkindness Sanctuary, since there are a ton of ravens in our area.

She also named the raven that regularly came to our front door “Hugin,” so I dig your crow bros name.

  • Can’t you setup a structure where people from both sides would together commit to voting third-party?

Can’t really do that with a First-Past-The-Post system because someone needs to get past the post. If there are four major parties (left and right both have significant numbers voting 3rd party), there would ultimately have to be a coalition or two that just ends up being the Republicans and Democrats all over again.

The system itself has to be changed first, and the two parties who benefit from there only being two parties aren’t going to change it to allow for that.

  • I feel like “mental gymnastics” has become grossly overused, and I don’t think it applies, but regardless you are involved in the shitty food joint’s (read: all that have wait staffs that operate on tips) business model, by being their customer. By going to a business that you know pays their wait staff less that minimum wage, you are agreeing to their shitty business model. So then, not paying a tip is essentially taking a discount on your order at your wait staff’s loss. The business owner isn’t hurt by that, they still get the full rate for the food. And as long as SOME customers pay tips, they don’t have to pay any more (hence the taking from other tables comment).

It is a shitty system, but you agree to participate in it if you go to those restaurants. Which, for sit-down restaurants in the US, is most. If you go to one of those restaurants and don’t tip, you aren’t making some protest against tipping culture, and you aren’t hurting the business owner. You are only saying that the wait staff should be paid at $2.13 per hour to serve you.

Lobby against the labor laws that allow less-than-minimum for tipped employees, or don’t go to restaurants that rely on that model. Anything else, you’re just taking a discount from the wait staffs’ paychecks by not tipping.

And I absolutely can not believe that such anti-worker, pro-business owner bullshit is happening here. I cannot stress enough, you not tipping does nothing to the business owner. Billionaires jack up prices, stifle wage increases, and we’re out here complaining about having to tip a person who otherwise would get $2.13 an hour, because somehow that’s legal.

That being said, starting at 30% is ri-goddamn-diculous.

Also, since I didn’t get to your later point, I’m not sure of its relevance to what I was saying. You have no control (and usually no knowledge) of how tips are distributed. So not sure what you are expecting from me here.
