They are very upfront about the bot describing bias against the American center and not the global or whatever “objective” standard people try to insert. By that metric, center-left perfectly describes NYT. Their editorial board has posted multiple times describing Trump as an unfit candidate and they have historically endorsed the democratic candidate. They’re obviously not even American leftist and they’re not center-left on the global scale, but it’s all relative.

I personally like the extra information and those who don’t are free to block the bot. I have seen commentor twisting themselves into absolute pretzels to avoid admitting that they can simply block the bot.

None of that works when “because I say so” is supported by a majority of the electorate. I’m not sure where the numbers come up exactly on Walters and this specific issue, but the Oklahoma electorate is not gonna be as clean cut against this as you might hope.

I’ve only corrected factual information in regards to the text of the bill. In fact, I have less than zero desire to get into any sort of political argument with someone who won’t even put in the 10 minutes it would take to read the section by section.

No, it’s discretionary down to a limit of 4k, which is also in the text of the bill. I really think you should stop commenting strongly on things you haven’t even read. It’s not a great look. You can find the section by section and full text on Lankford’s site. He led the bipartisan team that introduced the bill, but I’m sure you can find it elsewhere.

Quite a bit. Have you read the bill? Section I is doing a lot of hiring and training changes for border personnel. Section II is entirely centered on enhancements to the asylum review process. It’s mostly minutiae like streamlining certain bars for entry and such. There is also the contentious 5k/day (likely to be 4k under an R admin since it’s discretionary) threshold in Section III that triggers a full stop to entry until some of the backlog is cleared. Not sure I fully agree with that one but it will indisputably have an impact on the backlog.

Hi, just found this sub! I just want to say that these posts are obviously a work of love and I appreciate them. I don’t get to use PowerShell in my professional life as much as I used to, but your posts gave me a chance to dive back in a bit!

What a ridiculous way to compute value. Do you really think jobs are the only thing bought with that money? It brings money into the community. Those workers take that money and spend it at local businesses, driving the local economy up. Why do you think cities fall over each other to court these companies?

You keep trying to drive back to the genocide, but listen to what the people above you are telling you: the populace cares more about the economy and jobs than they do about Palestine. Last I checked (and I don’t have a source for you, sorry, just something I read in an article recently.) about half of Americans find Israel sympathetic in this conflict and about 30% find Palestine sympathetic. It’s obviously much more skewed toward Palestine for young people, but they are also notoriously the most fickle and demanding demographic.

The left is trying to win a noble fight with leverage it does not have, which is sadly their modus operandi. If you want a path that is set in reality and reduces the pain decades of foreign policy have constructed, vote Biden and vote as left as possible downticket to create an ecosystem where Congress can get the left what it wants and needs. I’d be happy to be wrong, but I do not believe there is anything else possible to be done in the current geopolitical scheme.

I think it’s both for me, which I think is what you might be saying as well. I would absolutely push the button to create the copy, or whatever, because I think I would derive satisfaction from creating a life (identical to mine, no less) that was free of the circumstance I was in, which must have been dire. However, I definitely don’t consider that instance “me” even if I do consider the copy a legitimate, separate version of “me”, so I don’t feel that I have perpetuated my own instance, leaving me in whatever fight-or-flight terror I was in to cause the scenario in the first place.

I found that the tradeoff came in the form of being more explicit, thus requiring fewer comments and less explicit readmes. Developers who normally struggled with naming things well would do better in PowerShell since it kinda “forced” them into the habit and structure. I know fans of Go (myself included) generally like that it takes that concept to the extreme. It fit my needs well at a time when I had a team of juniors to manage and teach.

Overall though, nothing wrong hating that strictness or verbosity! Lots of good options that support the reverse extreme and more moderate ones.

You’re right that Bash is among the worst options available, but it is common and what our friend above indicated he had experience with. I think your points are all valid, but I also find that most professional situations don’t offer much choice in the matter anyway. I used PowerShell because it was my company’s standard and there were 10 years of technical debt built around it. I got to know its ins and outs because of that and find some of them neat.

I don’t think anyone should take any of my messages as saying PowerShell is best in class for any particular use cases, but I do enjoy using it. I’m all Python and Golang now anyway 🙃

Oh and that’s somewhere where PowerShell really shines! Check out the examples on the docs page for some examples and see how easy they are to read and write compared to sed/awk/etc.

I also think PowerShell being object-based instead of string-based gives it flexibility for those of us who have experience with object-oriented programming languages. Being able to ship around objects to functions, splatting, etc are huge value adds for me personally.

Again though, sooooo subjective! Some people will legit hate that it’s object-based and hate the syntax. The world supports all kinds of developers and we’re all making cool stuff, so it’s all good!
