My grandfather used to say this all the time. He was such a humble man, too, so it always got a good “dad joke” chuckle. Glad to see it’s still out there.

Maybe I’m not autistic enough… But what do you do when there’s an odd number of eggs left?
bcgm3@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•"Trump is trying to collapse our economy": War on "woke" revealed as a war on all AmericansEnglish11·5 months agoI was really surprised at first that it was a woman, but then it became pretty clear that she was an old, white woman, and then it at least made more sense. She’s (presently) unaffected by any of the bullshit that is being thrust upon women of child-bearing age, the persons of color, the non-binary folk, the young people hurt most by skyrocketing housing costs, etc; and she’s thoroughly unapologetic about her lack of empathy for any of those groups of her fellow Americans. Goddamn, what a bummer.
EDIT: Then I made the mistake of continuing to listen, and
half or moreall of the callers for the next 20 minutes are brainwashed boomers ranting about how Biden was the devil and Trump is going to save us from the illegal immigrants who are ruining all of our lives. Yeesh.

Loved seeing them on the VH1 Top Ten in the morning when I was getting ready for school, even though the single (“One Headlight”) was pretty somber. The next single (“The Difference”) and “Laughing Out Loud” are both more up-tempo and fun. It’s definitely one of those albums where I listen to the whole thing straight through.

Just so much demonstrably false info. Early in the election ads ramp-up, there was one that actually showed the full text of the amendment on-screen, while making false claims about it in the voiceover.
They’re pandering to a base that does not care about facts, and who often will not even bother to read what is put in front of them.
bcgm3@lemmy.worldto THE POLICE PROBLEM@lemmy.world•Shot at him and put him in the hospital and police refuse to do anything until a lawyer was involvedEnglish15·8 months ago… for him, in the US, in that situation, it would probably be best to get a gun himself and the next time the guy does something like this, just two to the chest. … Seeing he has a restraining order and whatnot previous things, probably should be somewhat of an easy case to defend as self-defense, right? Unless it’s just even fucking sadder, and it is just because he’s black and he’d just end up imprisoned for murder.
“Imprisoned for murder” might still be on the optimistic side of potential outcomes… He could well be murdered himself, by the police, in reponse to what you and I see as self-defense. (I am guessing from the “in the US” part of your comment and other context that you aren’t from here, and may not be aware of the history of institutionalized racism that would make any interaction with the police potentially dangerous for him. Forgive me if I have erred there.)

Same way you claim your political opposition is committing widespread voter fraud, and then yours is the only party ever caught doing it.
Same way you accuse trans folks of being “child groomers,” when the vast majority of cases involve men from your own political party or religious group.
Same way… Well, you see where this is going.

According to the study in the article, maybe not? While 43% of those surveyed would feel negatively if their potential hookup was voting Trump, 40% wouldn’t care; and 65% don’t even give a shit if their next date plans to sit out the next election.

There are few greater antipoles to me and “my whole thing” than my dad, but… He taught me the value of being cautious, and to take time to extensively evaluate pros and cons before I made important decisions. I took that ball and ran with it, and now I am routinely praised by my peers for my ability to foresee potential pitfalls and preemptively negate them, and reflexively I think of my dad who would suggest that it was just common sense.
Of course it’s not just “common sense” – but rather a curious mindset and an intentional thought process – and you instilled that in me, Dad. Thank you.
