Wait, doesn’t everybody walk around with a pocket psychrometric chart?

Wait, what happened here? Is this picture supposed to be offensive somehow? Is there a place you can see deleted lemmy comments like you can see deleted reddit comments?
I still think mechanical watches are a pretty neat idea. I also never forget my towel so there’s some hope for me yet.
flerp@lemm.eeto politics @lemmy.world•Young male voters are flocking to Trump – but he doesn’t have their interests at heart1·10 months agoAnytime someone says “tell me you know nothing about X without saying you know nothing about X” instead of in any way refuting the comment they’re replying to, it only shows that they’re the one who actually doesn’t know anything about it.
You know people read what you write right? Like people other than who you’re talking to? If you can refute them, then refute them, otherwise you’re just making your side look bad and you’re not making anything better except maybe you feel better patting yourself on the back with your pithy and original comment.
flerp@lemm.eeto Autism@lemmy.world•As an autistic person how do you stay motivated (more specifically doing long tasks)?3·10 months agoSorry to hear about that it sounds very hard.
It definitely wasn’t as easy as it might have sounded and I was very lucky to have been given a second chance where I was able to focus on these things.
But one of the biggest lessons I have learned along the way is that those people who say give it 100% are not for me. The only way I can get anywhere is to give it 5-10% today and then just keep trying to do 5-10% everyday. Eventually that 5-10% becomes 20, 30, etc. until I get in a nice rhythm whereas if I started by pushing myself to 100% on day one I would never do anything on day two. Not trying to say it’s what’s right for everyone or that it would work for you, but I wish you the best, it’s a hard path.
flerp@lemm.eeto Autism@lemmy.world•As an autistic person how do you stay motivated (more specifically doing long tasks)?12·10 months agoRoutine. I do the same thing at the same time each day with special days where I do the more rare tasks that aren’t daily. It’s great for executive dysfunction because I don’t even have to think about it, when it’s that time I do that thing. It took a while to get here and of course there are bad times where I’m off my routine, but I started slow doing a little bit each day and built to this. It’s crazy to see where I’m at with a lot of difficult tasks vs. where I started and that progress only helps to reinforce the routine.
People say birds are dinosaurs because every living thing is in every clade of it’s ancestors which means they are dinosaurs. They’re also a lot of other things from all of the other clades so they’re not saying that birds are just dinosaurs, but that they are part of Dinosauria and every other clade of their ancestors and so too will all of their descendants be.
oh yeah, everything is a pirate ship!
You might want to talk to a therapist because that is not a “cultural” difference.
But if you don’t care that other people around you think you’re an asshole even if they’re not coming up to you and saying it, then there’s nothing anyone can say.
Nothing exists in a vacuum. Once someone believes one thing without evidence, they are likely to believe more things without evidence and people act on their beliefs. That’s the fundamental problem, believing things without evidence. Once you are comfortable with having that door open, it doesn’t stop at one thing and nothing else.
Technology-wise, most modern “analog” wristwatches are quartz, and therefore digital, not actually analog.
Wat… that’s not how that works. Quartz watches can be digital or analog but what matters is whether it has a digital display or analog hands.
I’m a watch nerd with a collection of mechanical watches and I’m not going to downvote you because you’re right. I wear them because I like them even though I know they are anachronistic. I can’t remember the last time I interacted with somebody significantly younger than me who was wearing a watch, and as I said, I’m a watch nerd, someone’s watch is one of the first things I notice about them.
I will say that they are occasionally more convenient than other places I could check the time but I’ve built my life in such a way that I very rarely have to care about what time it is and I go weeks at a time without checking the time, just wearing them because I’m fascinated by tiny gears and springs doing their business and I like the feeling of it on my wrist.

That’s the opposite of why he said that though. He said that because he felt that the things that seemed random couldn’t actually be random and that there was something more that they didn’t understand. In other words, he felt he didn’t know enough and wanted to learn more. Not sure where you came up with the idea that he wasn’t interested in learning more.
I don’t mind standing in a small cube with strangers, that’s no issue at all. People that I’ve met once or twice but don’t know, that’s who I avoid.
You’re conflating subjective and objective. Just because things subjectively matter to you (they also subjectively matter to most nihilists as well) doesn’t mean they objectively matter. That’s where the distinction lies.

Problem is if Trump gets back in he’ll clean house as much as possible so it’s better to have people remain quiet and keep their heads down so they’re in place to stop anything he tries as opposed to making it obvious they need to be removed by a tyrant.
