Imma join the disassembly gang. Takes no more than a minute to unscrew and take the top off, then you take a hammer and give it some direct hits. Could additionally take the magnet that’s inside (or an even stronger one) and give the disks a few swoops if you like. (And now you have a free magnet!)

@EllaSpiggins@lemm.ee I don’t think the reason message displayed here is acceptable for a mod of this instance.

I neglected to update for like seven “major” versions recently. I took the safe-ish route to just read every release note as I go and install the last minor version of each major version release, then start, quick check, stop, next one. It turned out fine.
edit: Backup, backup, backup. Then you can’t fail.
This happened to me on lemm.ee, my account setting to show votes got turned off with the last instance update. Maybe it’s the same for you.
Yeah, whole instance (“site”). And that automatically banned you from 196.
Fine, I’ll do it myself.
(I don’t mean to be mean, it’s just how I am, btw)
despite never commenting in the community
I suspect you got instance banned and that got you banned from the community, but you’re going to have to check the modlog yourself.
AFAIK an instance ban also bans you from every community on it that you have participated in, so that would be why it shows up like that.

Thank you for acting!
I mostly wanted to warn potential upvoters as to what they’re really upvoting.
Plan B was to get an obviously power tripping ban that I can post here. Somehow, I figured this would be the case.
the instance’s modlog shows the troll was banned from their instance
I don’t think it does? They were banned from a couple of communities, but that’s it: https://lemmy.sdf.org/modlog?page=1&actionType=All&userId=15728004
It’s just a matter of time, though.
