Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Lemmy@lemmy.ml•What is the long-term storage plan for Lemmy instances?English4·2 years agoThe largest table holds data that is only needed by Lemmy briefly. There is a scheduled job to clear it… Every 6 months. There are active discussions on how best to handle this.
On my instance I’ve set a cronjob to delete everything but the most recent 100k rows of that table every hour.
This got a genuine giggle out of me. I’ve saved it.

Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Technology@beehaw.org•Just found the Emoji/GIF keyboard in Windows....🤦♂️English7·2 years agoYou can paste screenshots straight into a Lemmy post and it is automatically uploaded and linked for you. I use this to paste whatever I’ve just captured with Win+shift+s
Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Pro-tip: Self-hosting Lemmy? You can use object storage to back pict-rs (image hosting) to save a lot of moneyEnglish2·2 years agoI’m using S3FS to achieve the same thing, but without modifying the ansible config or using native object storage within pict-rs.

I like their sense of humour. The definitely don’t take themselves too seriously.

Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Are there any gotchyas to running a Lemmy Instance?English11·2 years agoToo soon to tell for sure. Though I’m curious to see how the larger instances deal with storage growth, especially for the database.
At home I’m running proxmox on a Ryzen 9 3900X, 96GB of RAM with 4TB of NVME storage. I have VMs for a bunch of stuff, most importantly Unraid which is passed a SATA controller with 8 drives. Storage from unraid then mounted as NFS/SMB shares to various VMs.
Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Lemmy Self-host: Error linking to other communitiesEnglish3·2 years agoI suspect you’ve manually configured NPM to point directly to the lemmy-ui container. This will break stuff. The ansible provided nginx config routes different URIs to lemmy and lemmy-ui.
Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-Hosting Lemmy: How easy is it to federate?English1·2 years agoThe vast majority of instances federate with everyone. You won’t have any issues, unless admins of other instances decide to explicitly defederate from your instance.
Lodion 🇦🇺@aussie.zoneto Technology@beehaw.org•what would Reddit need to do to get you to go back1·2 years agoThat about covers it. If all those were to occur, I’d go back. But realistically, none of them will happen.
Nice to see the subreddits listed by subs. Reddit can’t ignore this… interested to see how they respond. I’m sure it will be some half baked knee jerk reaction that will get the community even more against them.
