Well, I can tell you how Jellyfin differs from a directory full of files, but I can’t help you with understanding that other people have different preferences and desires than you which are neither “conditions” nor “addictions.”

You are imagining how to use a computer filled with video files.

Now imagine having your own personal netflix available on a variety of devices, using just that one computer full of video files.

Emby

Jellyfin exists because Emby was only open source until it wasn’t convenient. Some of their own devs pointed out they were violating the license, and their response was… non-ideal.

So Jellyfin was forked with the last fully open-source Emby code.

At least that’s my recollection several years down the line.

I decided then that no amount of headache from Jellyfin (and let me say that I was an EARLY jellyfin adopter AND former Plex user) would be enough to get me to use Emby. (Because things like that are important to me, though I realize they aren’t important to everyone.)

And reading this thread I’m apparently a super-genius because I have my Jellyfin behind a reverse proxy and serve it to my elderly parents with a simple login and an app they were able to install, and never found it to be a headache. (Which, if I’d read this thread only, I’d conclude was just not possible without voodoo magic)

No headaches along the way, and whereas Plex had already begun the march to enshittification when I left, Jellyfin has done nothing but steadily get better.

Anyhow, longer answer than intended, but I’d go back to Plex before I’d go to Emby, just on principle.

The ratio of those varies from maga voter to maga voter, but IME those are pretty much the only two reasons I see for why they have condemened not only themselves but also the entire rest of the nation to life in this emerging dystopia. They’ve already killed people in this country with their vote, and the numbers will only go up.

Yet somehow we all still have to go to work and get along every day, but I truly don’t care if I never see or speak to a single Trump voter ever again, and that includes so-called friends and family members. They are all dead to me, or as dead as familial and work obligations will allow. Every last one can choke on a bag of dicks and razor blades as far as I care.

You can’t play stupid chicken as the president and continuously get away with saying “oops” sorry someone else ruined the sick flip I was going to do over and over.

If you are Trump, for reasons I still cannot fully fathom and which have seriously damaged my view of humanity in general, you can, it seems.

I realize I’m making some optimistic assumptions about the durability of our election apparatus, but if we can’t get a shift in power at the midterms I suspect the fascist in chief will accelerate his rate of attacks on freedoms and it won’t be long after that. I predict we make it no later than slightly past the midterms before hitting that point unless there’s a big shift on the congressional side of things.

Not so much because I think people will take to the streets with that in mind, by the way, but because tensions will be so high that somebody somewhere is going to make just the wrong mistake, some people are going to die or get badly hurt, and it’s going to set things off from there.

Time for blue states to stop paying federal tax, then.
