  • I also feel like Morrowind doesn’t translate over to a Skyrim-style gameplay nearly as well as Oblivion does

Because Oblivion was arguably Skyrim-style gameplay already; not much to translate there.

If i recall correctly the Skywind team said on stream they have roughly 2-3 times the volume of written and spoken dialogue compared to edit: either Skyeim or Oblivion.

I agree though, I think there’s an argument to be made that Morrowind in its entirety is perfect as it is, but that’s why I’m looking forward to it even more than to Skyblivion. Really curious what they are cookin

  • For me personally it’s a bit like… the creation of memories. And the synthesis of what I like to call “ambient feelings” – like vibes or atmospheres people, places or situations give off. A lot of layered emotions, a lot superpositions, where something or someone is multiple things at the same time. “Chimeras”, which are blends of people I know for example.

Then the details slip away from me and I can’t even talk to anyone about the experience.

That’s normal. I swear that my dreams are really detailed sometimes, but the memories become muddy the more I think about them.

Is it really a window to the subconscious for you?

Yes. I take my dreams very serious. They are weird and hard to describe, sometimes they are cruel in a way. I consider myself a pretty reflected person, but from time to time my dreams show me stuff I don’t want to admit to myself.

That said, I love dreaming. Reality is rigid and boring. I like to imagine we live and absorb impressions only so our brains can dream. Which is bullshit :D but I enjoy the thought.

  • SteamOS will most likely be deployed on other handheld PCs, not desktop PCs. The handheld PCs that came out in response to the deck’s release (or before) usually run Windows.

Android is not bad because Android itself is bad (well… it kinda is but let’s just assume it isn’t), but because the phone manufacturers lock down their phones’ hardware. They do this to force you into their ecosystem. With SteamOS, you already have an ecosystem, which is Steam. There is (at least for now) a clear distinction between Hardware manufacturer and software provider.

For now at least Androidization is nothing you should worry about. Maybe in 10, 20 years. edit: and even then it’s never going to be as bad as with the smartphones

  • This may be feasible for WQHD, but upscaling from 960x540 > 1920x1080 doesn’t really sound like an upgrade from WXGA anymore.

Another problem is that while there are some 3D games that support internal upscaling (FSR etc), not every game has the option to scale the UI indepently so things look extremely small at higher resolutions. The games that support both should be an exception and look better on a higher DPI screen.

I do believe that you could either slightly increase the resolution and screensize to 1600x1000 or 1600x900, or just use a WQHD-screen so you can get clean 2x upscaling from 720p.

  • 1280x800 is 16:10, a standard aspect ratio, and isn’t far from 16:9 at all. 720p (HD) is 1280x720

The steamdeck has a super awkward resolution that doesn’t fit into any standard aspect ratio. Which creates problems with some games.

Games don’t need to run on the native resolution.

Yeah they don’t. The Deck’s resolution is fine. Do you have any examples of games that don’t run well on the deck?

    edit:

Playing a lower resolution on a screen that has a higher one will generally also make the image look nicer

No. Native resolution always looks better
