We are judged by actions, not words.

rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Science Memes@mander.xyz•I hate this image because idiots will see it, not understand what its showing, and make up some crazy shit based on it.English8·4 months agoThe further you look in the sky, the further back in time you are looking as well – there is no way to see what far way looks like “right now”. This image shows the visible universe as it appears from our perspective in spacetime, which necessarily smears together the “where”, “what”, and “when” of it all, but also shows the evolution through time of some of the larger structures.
The tendril things that converge into single celestial objects are clouds of gas condensing to form galaxies and clusters over billions of years.
It’s a handy way to convert any value to a Boolean. If
window.chrome
is defined and done non-empty value, double negation turns it into justtrue
.

You are aware there are other places outside where you live, and different things happen there, right?

Citizens of those states deserve the same benefits, no matter how dumb they or their leaders are

rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump bizarrely claims nobody knows his Democratic rival’s last name (it’s Harris)12·11 months agoI mean I hate him, but I didn’t get that from this. To me it sounded like he was suggesting that her newfound supporters know very little about her, that they are fair-weather followers or something. It’s easy to imagine that one of his yes-men showed him a clip of a rally where somebody was fumbling for her last name, and he just took that idea and magnified a single example of something into “nobody knows”, like he always does.
Most interesting definition, I think, comes from contrapposto. Can it die? No. So long as it retains its “shape” more or less, it functions. If heated or denatured, it no longer functions. More like broken than dead.
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this1·1 year agoDamn me neither
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this3·1 year agoThis is the same fucking thing. It is simultaneously 12:25am MDT and 6:25am GMT where I live. If you ask my computer what time it is, it knows it is 06:25:00-06:00.
Two sides of the same coin buddy.
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this4·1 year agoWhat you’re describing is LITERALLY the system we have. UTC is a global, coordinated time that tracks solar time to a precision of less than a second. As far as my computer is concerned, my time is UTC (technically GMT, but they both refer to the same time) minus 6 hours. We all could choose to say, “hey, wanna meet for dinner at 3AM?” and have that be a normal thing to say in my area, and an odd thing to say odd in Europe… but nobody wants that.
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this5·1 year agoHow stoned are you right now
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this2·1 year agoI’m imagining something more fluid, where the time it is depends on exactly where you’re standing and the position of the sun in relation to it. You’d need to factor the direction you’re traveling as well as the distance whenever you went anywhere. We’d have a lot more intimate relationship with our current celestial situation.
rektdeckard@lemmy.worldto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•It's time to mentally prepare yourselves for this17·1 year agoI think they’re proposing personal time zones, where every individual’s clock shows their precise solar time, and nobody ever manages to be on time to work ever again.
You are right, of course. There are things we can’t condone. But you realize that by saying it you sound exactly like the “all lives matter” response to BLM: technically correct, but oblivious to the context in which the original statement arises. When we say Palestinian lives matter, we aren’t saying Israeli lives don’t. We’re saying that you have forgotten that Palestinian lives even matter at all.
It’s the people who love to talk about strict types that tend to be the problem
