  • Throwing a few random ones out there-

One that looks like a city building, so the plants would look like it had a rooftop garden

A spider with the legs as the stand and the body holding a pot (or the body could be a pot that looks like a spider)

Similarly, a whale with plant area where the blowhole is, so the plant is like the water spraying out

Tetris blocks that connect but each have plant holders in them in thr top or on small shelves in the front.

Hope this gets creative juices flowing. Please share what you end up making!

  • Okay so after skimming the article I saw that they developed what they call a “family of shapes” that were optimized for minimal heat transfer–but they didn’t provide any visuals? The images they showed in the article were of commonly available glasses instead. Couldn’t they sketch one up based on their models?

    Seriously disappointing.

  • I have a withings and I really like it. Their privacy policy made me feel better about allowing my info on the cloud. You can run it offline (it sends weight via Bluetooth to the app but won’t show 7-day trend an scale screen without wifi). I don’t mind that, so I leave it disconnected. I don’t use a home assistant though so I can’t speak to that part.

I have the withings watch also, so I use the app as my catch all health tracker which works well. it’s nice to have everything together. Can’t speak to any others but I’d recommend withings.

    From the wiki article :

Perelman resigned from his research post in Steklov Institute of Mathematics and in 2006 stated that he had quit professional mathematics, owing to feeling disappointed over the ethical standards in the field. >

Anybody have any idea what the ethical standards might be that he’s referring to? Not sure if there’s a scandal or something or just an overall sense of displeasure with the field.

  • I agree with other replies here with one addition. People who get into grad school are generally the high achievers from their high school and undergrad programs, so they are used to being the only or one of few star students. In PhD programs everyone is a star student, so it can be a bit jarring to folks used to being head of the class when they suddenly aren’t.

It can cause a bit of jealousy and competitive thinking but most of the time students get past it and focus simply on enduring the gauntlet.
