I could not care less for “the chosen one” thing, which is just annoying and a tired trope.

Neelix was the “hospitality” character, Guinan in TNG, and Quark in DS9, but it was poorly written to the point of just being annoying, IMO. If the whole “hounding Tuvok to get him to loosen up” was supposed to be funny, it failed.

He was just annoying. No wonder poor Tuvok couldn’t stand him (and then they got merged :eyeroll: ).

The show because of Shohreh Aghdashloo, whose casting was a stroke of genius. And the books because it’s a great story. Silo (on Apple TV) is also great. #ScienceFiction
SocProf@masto.aito Star Trek Social Club@startrek.website•My problems with season 4 of Discovery31·2 years ago@Ministar I agree with most of this (and #DoctorWho had the same issue at some point… how many times can the universe be rebooted???). But the whole thing has become about people’s feelings, including the dang computer, like you said, right when there is a mortal danger at hand. A lot of the characters have become just bundles of feelings and it’s just not that interesting. #StarTrek #STDiscovery. That is where the other series (LD, Prodigy, and SNW) are much more successful, in my opinion.
@cybervseas @TheAlbatross LD might be harder for new people because there are so many call backs to other series and storylines. This stuff delights us trekkies but might be as great for new folks. @allstartrek #allStarTrek
