If you are making them aware they will fail by not reading the documentation, then its surprising they would continue to put that off. Using chatgpt is different than only being able to use chatgpt. Then again i was a kid once and kind of get it. Maybe banning it is the better option, as you say.
I thought it was scary enough when instructors would do “locked down” timed tests with short/essay answers. I cant imagine students thinking they’d be fine using chatgpt for stuff theyll need to applicably demonstrate.
I wonder if the drop out rate will increase for colleges due to stuff like this, or if students are majoring in more technical stuff more due to llm overconfidence.
Thanks for your responses!
Im asking about this individuals experience as a ta, not for an opinion on llms.
Oh interesting that they wouldnt need or want to hide that. When i use it i interpret every line of code and decide if its appropriate. If that would be too time consuming then i wouldnt use an llm. I would never deviate from the assignment criterion or the material covered by deferring to some obscure methodology used by an llm.
So i personally dont think its been bad for my education, but i did complete a lot of my education before llms were a thing.
Dont you guys test the students in ways to punish the laziness? I know you are just a ta, but do you think the class could be better about that? Some classes ive taken are terribly quality and all but encouraged laziness, and other classes were perfactly capable of cutting through the bullshit.
How do you know if it doesnt benefit a student? If their work is exceptional, do you assume they didnt use an LLM? Or do you not see any good code anymore?

Its all about who lets themselves play into the extremes we are inundated with.
Be careful not to apply the same logic to all women/leftists who apparently all think men are rapists. Thats obviously not true. Their claim about you is obviously not true.
Diffuse the polarization with understanding.
tee9000@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Young people are struggling to deal with their MAGA parents — again1·8 months agoWhat is the point of a news article that could be tailored for either political party with 3 people’s subjective experience? You are putting all of your trust in the author/publisher.
It begs to draw conclusions about the masses based on 3 people. Talk about data-driven issues, or notable events, not narratives. This is circlejerk. Just sayin.
An actual opportunity to talk about an issue, rather than reinforce my own beliefs. Dont mind if i do…
Dont you think this is more of an artifact of personalizing newsfeeds and those separated viewpointa clashing with other personalized newsfeeds?
Every opinion exists, and the internet allows opinions to be magnified without a basis in people’s true opinions. We need to learn how to navigate and develop our social beliefs without fixating on who’s opinion is percieved as majority or being shown the most in media… that includes overreacting to polarized opinions and validating them.
Real peoples opinions are different than the popularity of memeified opinions. When people talk to each other there is understanding. When people arm themselves with memes instead of forming their own opinions, we are parroting ideas that might be manufactored so we have no choice but to deny meme ideologies unless their merit is unavoidable.

Ive put so much time into lemmy but im realizing it may be best to start looking elsewhere.
The amount of people that are fanatically ignorant is almost suspicious. How can this be a representation real people? Is this place just a magnet for no-lifers? Surely people dont want to spend their time reading or discussing articles like “Musk is realizing how dumb he is”.
Its like looking at the dumbest possible representation of my beliefs to make me question if my beliefs themselves are dumb lol.

Woman can surely be voting for kamala as the article says.
Characterizing men in such a way is based on a single douche.

Low effort stuff needs to be punished in discussion-based communities like politics, technology and news. Mods are just happy to see people parroting the correct viewpoints but even if they are valid viewpoints theres no meaning behind them because people are memeifying their ideologies.
I would love to see bans for “revealing your side” so that people come to their own conclusions based on the truest information we can discuss. People are afraid of others coming to the wrong conclusions and fail to trust others to think so they tell them what to think.
It drives me fucking mad.
tee9000@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•America's youngest voters become major election liars4·9 months agoSeriously. If you try to talk about a political issue at face value without making your “side” clear then people fill in those blanks for you as though you made a mistake in being too ambiguous.
