Context matters. In geometry i is a perfectly cromulent name for a real valued variable.

thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•From reddit selfhosted: What do you wish you knew from the startEnglish1·1 year agoAnd I’ve been using it for
eightsix of those 15 in RAID 5/6 with zero issues, so YMMW I guess. Sorry you experienced problems.
thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Programming@programming.dev•What's the dumbest reason you've learned a programming language?18·1 year agoWe should be able to figure this out. Which year, month, date and hour of the day was it?
Sounds like Feynman’s algorithm.
- Write down the problem
- Think about it really hard
- Write down the solution
Sorry, I don’t see it. Do you mean in a reply to a comment?
I think OP needs to explain why a note taking app is not a diary app in their view.
thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why You Should Self-Host EverythingEnglish5·1 year agoI said I’ve been trying for 20 years. Obviously it’s a Brother.
thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Why You Should Self-Host EverythingEnglish34·1 year agoI feel attacked by this post. I self host Home Assistant, recursive proxy servers, RSS readers, photo managers, vscode, media servers, download managers, backup solutions, git, password databases, economy trackers… And if I need to print from my macbook I have to email the file to myself because in twenty years I haven’t ONCE been able to host my printer on the network in a way that works for more than three days before randomly breaking.
It’s memes like this that makes manufacturers think it doesn’t matter anyway, and suddenly start making devices where the USB sockets are actually upside down. And let me tell you, once you’ve had to deal with one of those, you won’t be laughing anymore.
I’ve seen that in style guides ”because it should piss of everyone equally”.
”Better known as Windoze”
Stopped reading right there. Edgy 14 year old script kiddies can think whatever they want. I’m not interested.

Depends on the language the script is written in. If it’s bash/sh then it’s usually just
$VARIABLE
thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•My Docker containers can no longer communicate with the host's local networkEnglish4·2 years agoI go the other way. I have linux installed pretty much just to run docker and qemu running windows with iommu passthrough. The performance hit is negligible, and with
docker context
you can run docker-cli and devcontainers and stuff in the windows vm like native.
thomasloven@lemmy.worldto Apple@lemmy.world•iOS users of Apple Maps or Google Maps: Why do you prefer one over the other?2·2 years agoGoogle maps are absolutely atrocious in Sweden.
Tried to find a spot my brother-in-law was camping at from the position he sent last week. After parking and walking for an hour, we switched to Apple maps instead, and surprise! There’s an impassable stream between us!

Took me weeks to get my modem to work with that. Had to keeep rebooting back to windows to disl up to the net and check documentation and tutorials…
After that things picked up, though.
10? That’s the name some put to 1e1, right?
