100%. This is exactly why I switched my home server over to NixOS and would struggle to go back. I used to reinstall all the time but now there really isn’t any need to, since I can just look at my configuration.nix file and know everything that’s installed, running and configured on my system. Whereas using any other distro I’m like WHAT ON EARTH IS RUNNING ON HERE?
This week I realised my Mastodon instance was severely out of date because I was using nix flakes and didn’t autoupdate but now that’s been fixed 😄
I’m currently looking to connect an NVMe SSD to a Pi 4 I have in a differences location to finally have proper 3-2-1 backups. I’m trying to find a NVMe to USB adapter that will work though.
You can use pixelfed with the same account, but to do this you will have to go onto your mastodon instance and follow a pixelfed accounts from there and they will appear in your Mastodon timeline. Here is a little explanation of the “log in with Mastodon” option.
For me the biggest speedup in my workflow was not through actually cutting down on the build time but rather using cargo watch. With cargo watch -x run, it automatically rebuilds and runs on any change so by the time I switch to the terminal it’s almost completely ready.

Ahhh thank you, by the looks of the thread you linked it seems that there’s no way of doing it without manually copying database tables over. I did think that may be the case, so I’ll just migrate it the normal way then. Thanks for the help!
That does seem like a good option for my use case, interestingly they note that no matter what I switch to I should change the subdomain:
It’s not supported across the Fediverse to switch between implementations on the same domain. This means that if you run GoToSocial on example.org, you’ll run into federation issues if you try to switch to a different implementation like Pleroma/Akkoma, Misskey/Calckey etc.
That doesn’t look promising for moving the account without migrating because then I couldn’t maintain my username.
Overall I think Alex handled this situation really well, listened to what people wanted and come to something that everyone’s fine with.

It did take quite a while for Immich to process everything when I initially uploaded my library, how long has it been since the initial upload?
The only problem is that there’s no way to make a recurring payment even if I wanted to, which would be more sustainable than one-time purchases.

That is quite a tricky situation to handle, there will be the option to suggest edits though so hopefully over time the arguments on each side will get clearer even if they were heated at the start.
I do quite like that idea, I think I’ll have the best points from each side at the top, the ones that have been disputed at the bottom, and the ones currently in discussion in between. This will hopefully give an overview of the best arguments from both sides.
On a separate note, I was thinking of using this for more political discussions but I do like the idea of having technical subjects as well so will add them in.

configuration.nix. Usually I’ll write notes about why I set a certain option above the line where I do it but I also have a section at the start that describes anything to be aware of if I’m moving this configuration to another machine. For example “This assumes a drive is mounted on/mnt/backup0”
