And today the Netherlands are one of the richest and most democratic countries in the world. Makes you think, doesn’t it?

I’m fluent in Dutch and at no point in the supplied link is there any reference to eating anything.

Attempted murder, torture, court, death, body parts being sold, heart being cut out and displayed for years, yes … eating, not so much.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_de_Witt

The brothers were shot and then left to the mob. Their naked, mutilated bodies were strung up on the nearby public gibbet, while the Orangist mob ate their roasted livers in a cannibalistic frenzy.

There is actually a whole article on their murder, quite extensively detailing the days leading up to their death as the days that follow it (not in English though): https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moord_op_de_gebroeders_De_Witt

To me, the most disturbing part is the next sentence:

The brothers were shot and then left to the mob. Their naked, mutilated bodies were strung up on the nearby public gibbet, while the Orangist mob ate their roasted livers in a cannibalistic frenzy. Throughout it all, a remarkable discipline was maintained by the mob, according to contemporary observers, lending doubt as to the spontaneity of the event.

How the fuck do you eat people’s liver in a frenzy but disciplinedly?? That makes no sense, right? Please tell me it’s not possible.

I think most of it was not eaten.

Ledematen en geslachtsdelen werden afgesneden, tongen en ingewanden uitgerukt, de lijken ondersteboven opgehangen aan een galg. De buit werd triomfantelijk getoond, opgegeten of verkocht

You might be tempted to look down on them, but at least they tried it before deciding prime minister doesn’t taste good.

There’s no prime minister in Germany, just a chancellor and a president. Well, on a federal level at least. Should be yellow.
